Mae Anne's Hot Pink Debut Cake

18th Birthday Cake

I've been sifting through my old photos and I started to realize there's so many cakes I haven't had the chance to post yet.  In most cases, I didn't have time to do step-by-step photos so I decided not to post them.  But I've changed my mind.  If anything, they're fun and pretty to look at.  They could even be the inspiration for your next cake creation.  So here goes my first "Throwback Thursday" cake...

18th Birthday Cake

I made this cake for Mae Anne's eighteenth birthday party, also called a debut in Filipino culture. It's a three-tiered cake with a hot pink, white and black color scheme. The top tier is painted hot pink and I attached black fondant flower appliques all around the middle of the cake. The middle tier is a white cake with hot pink fondant scrolls. The bottom tier is a white cake with vertical hot pink fondant strips. I used black icing gel to hand paint the scroll design in between each fondant strip.

I would have LOVED this for my eighteenth birthday.  Well, I guess I could still make this for my next birthday.  I might not be eigtheen anymore but I can still have a pretty pink birthday cake, right?

I think the painting is messy. Why not just use hot pink fondant, then it would have been incredible.
